Pylasteki

Pylasteki is a 1961 Pearson Triton sailboat. She is one of my personal project boats... I am rebuilding her as a blue water cruiser.

Brrr! Winter Wonderland.

Went down to check on Pylasteki and pump out the bilge.
Snow flurries and cold rain meant no work outside, though inside some more solid copper wire came out and so did the old bilge blower. Strangely enough some of the bare wire was not corroded and shiny as new... though the insulation was ancient. I must say that access to the blower is much easier with the ice box out of the way. The last attempt was made through the cockpit locker, which involved emptying its contents... and sliding by 200lb 6 foot tall frame in feet first. Its a tight space!

A little re-arranging, and noting that bilge pump replacement is inevitable, as the piston pump pumped its last pump today. Its passing will be mourned, but a larger capacity diaphragm style is in the future! Do any of you guys and gals have recommendations for placement, so it can be operated with a hand on the tiller?

No pictures for today, as she is in dire need of a bath. Though a wash down on a day like today would have made both the boat and me into icicles!

Hey Zach,

I have a diaphragm pump in the port cockpit locker which works pretty well. I have also seen them mounted flush on the cockpit well so you don't need to open the lid to get to them.

Zach, Its txsurfer from Boootsnall.

Good to see the boat still coming along. I finally got my tiller installed along with my outboard and Ive been going out steadily. The winter in Texas isn't toooo bad.

Now Im already looking for something else as my cruising dreams are growing. Been finding some good deals in my area, just not quite ready yet to jump on something. So far I have found a 72 Yankee 30, asking 9K on it. I also found a Cal-29 for $4500 with a seized inboard. Ahhh the options! You have a beautiful boat man.

Hey Zach,

I couldn't help but notice you misspelled "Triton" as "Trition" in your blog title.

Some days the fingers type faster than the brain! (Good Catch Tim!)

Thanks for the comments guys.

I like the flush mount idea.

Dave, thanks! Good luck finding a few more feet. (Grin) Some days aboard Pylastiki I wish for another foot or two, mainly beam...
